Quotation of the Week

In spite of illness, in spite even of thearchenemy sorrow,
one can remain alive long past the usual date ofdisintegration
if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectualcuriosity,
interested in big things,
and happy in small ways.
--- Edith Wharton

Our Next Tele-Class

Creating From Source

with Sharry Teague & Sheila Filan,
SoulCollage Facilitators in Oregon

Although we probably appreciate all the cards in our SoulCollage deck, perhaps some feel more potent, more alive, than others.  I know this is truefor me.  What makes the difference?  My sense is that there are times when wehave opened to more depth, breadth, or height in our creative work. Is thissomething we can encourage or is it a Grace that is beyond our ability toinfluence?   We invite you to explore this important question in Creating From Source.

Sharry Teague received her SoulCollage Facilitator's training in 2004 withSeena Frost, Kylea Taylor, and Noelle Remington. SoulCollage wasespecially important to her because she had been away from doing artfor many years. It was an accessible way to reconnect with the part ofher that loved to color.  Sharry is retired from teaching highschool economics and then serving for several years as a high schoolcounselor in Grants Pass, Oregon. She has lead workshops in personalgrowth and journal writing through Rogue Community College, taughtcreative dance to children, and currently offers Life Coaching.  Sharryis training to become a Certified Focusing Professional.

Sheila Filan received her SoulCollage Facilitator's training inSeptember of 2004 with Seena Frost, Kylea Taylor, and Noelle Remington.Sheila has a rich background in art beginning in high school where shestudied with Sister Mary Corita. Sheila works in a variety of media andhas taught Surface Design at Southern Oregon University.  Inaddition to her art background, Sheila is a Feldenkrais practitioner.Movement is a second art form for her. She also has studied SoulMotion, taught yoga, is an aikido black belt, and currently practicesNia.  Sheila raises many of the fruits and vegetables she uses inher cooking, another important avocation. She is "mom" to 4 cats at herhome in Ashland, Oregon.

Both Sharry and Sheila are studying with Russell Delman in his Embodied Life Mentorship Program.

If you don't subscribe to O: The Oprah Magazine, you might want to pick up a copy of the October issue which is in bookstores and magazines now.  It's one of the best issues I've read, and I think I've read them all!  There's a wonderful article about the upcoming film Secret Life of Bees (based on the book by Sue Monk Kidd). There's also a great article by Martha Beck about our relationship with time and prioritizing the difference between "important" and "urgent."  And a whole section of short articles and essays on the meaning of love: self and otherwise.

Between the Linear- beautiful art by Pamela Becker Creations.

The AccidentalTourist, featuring William Hurt, Geena Davis, Kathleen Turner.  A quirky film about the unpredictability oflove.  Macon writes city guides for businesstravelers who only want to experience the familiar when away from home.  He leads a rather boring life.  When his wife leaves him, he moves in withhis reclusive siblings.  ThenMacon meets a spontaneous, fun-loving dog walker.  Before he quite knowswhat is happening, she has pulledMaconout of his cocoon and into her slipshod life. This romantic comedy demonstrates how an exuberant soul adds color andmagic to the lives of all those she touches.   ---from Spiritual Rx,Prescriptions for Living a Meaningful Life, by Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat

Inner Surprises- Anne Marie's blog with an intimate look into her SoulCollage Deck.

When Fear Falls Away: The Story of aSudden Awakening, by Jan Frazier. One day in August of 2003, the author experienced what she calls "adramatic falling away of fear," not just the immediate fear of an upcomingmedical test, but as she learned as time went on, her fear of everything.  She was "flooded with a causeless joy thathas never left me."  Jan portrays in thisbook the ways that she changed from being at the mercy offear to living in a state of joy.  Herday-by-day record shows her awakening as it unfolds over the course of 18months.  Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D. (authorof Kitchen Table Wisdom) calls this book "a nightlight," and I think you willtoo.

Enlightenment for Idiots, byAnne Cushman.  This is the story ofAmanda who is commissioned to write what she thinks is just another "ForIdiots" travel guide, but turns out to be an amazing journey both inside andout.  Most of the book takes place in India, as shetravels there from famous ashrams to well-known (and not so well-known)gurus.  I didn't want this book to end,but end it did... and now it's a blessing to share it with you all.  Full of rich, honest details, clear writing, powerful feelings and great humor.  Ican't wait to read her next one!
