Highlights of this issue:

Quotation of the Week
For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
~T.S. Eliot, "Little Gidding"

Inner Journeys

Integrating the Practice of SoulCollage®
Into Our Daily Lives
Beginnings and Endings
I love any kind of a celebration, but my two most
favorite holidays are Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Not New Year's Eve,
although I love the ritual of staying up until midnight and welcoming the
New Year in with family and friends.
New Year's Day is the holiday that really speaks to my soul.
There is something about this Big Beginning that entices me. A clean slate.
A new start. A chance to rearrange priorities. A new year, ready for me to
create as my very own.
Since I was a teenager, I have spent many a New Year's Day in solitude,
looking over my journals from the previous year. This ritual always gives me
a solid base from which to begin the new year. I have always
instinctively done this, but I have just recently come to understand that in
order to truly begin a new year with a fresh start, it helps to look back on
the old year I'm leaving behind. It helps to become aware of its blessings
and its shadows, its gifts as well as its challenges.
If it's been a really good year, I might even need to grieve its passing
before I can truly embrace the new one that I am approaching. Like T.S.
Eliot says in the quotation above, to make an end is to make a beginning.
And I will just add one more speck of wisdom to that, as we all move into
2010: to make a good beginning, it is necessary to let something come to an
end.

SoulCollage® Expressions
Ideas and Challenges to Spice Up
Your SoulCollage® Practice
Challenge of the Week
In light of the above essay on endings and beginnings, I am sharing the
questions below. They are helping me immensely in my New Year's
journey and I hope they will be of value to you as well. They are from
Jamie Ridler Studios with a few additions of my own. Enjoy!
- What was the highlight of 2009 for
you?
- What was the low point?
- What are you proud of?
- What was fun?
- What in your life has changed?
- What has stayed the same?
- What did you say yes to in 2009?
- What did you say no to?
- Who are the new people who entered
your life in 2009?
- Who did you say good-bye to in 2009?
- What were the gifts of 2009?
- What were the challenges?
- What do you want to remember?
- What would you like to celebrate?
- What did you love about 2009?
- If 2009 was a painting, what colors
would it be?
- What would you like to leave behind in
2009?
- What do you want to take with you into
2010?
- What are you yearning to add into
2010?
Is there a SoulCollage® card asking to be
made, maybe one that represents what 2009 was for you? And/or maybe one that
represents what you'd like 2010 to be?

February 25, 2010 (Tuesday, 7 pm Eastern)- Eye of the Hawk SoulCollage® Reading, with Mili
Ballard, SoulCollage® Facilitator & Facilitator Trainer in North Carolina.
Mili will share a brief description of the transpersonal map of the psyche that
includes the biographical, perinatal, and transpersonal levels of consciousness.
Founded on the work of Stanislav Grof, transpersonal psychology purports that
for sustainable healing to occur, all three levels of the psyche must be touched
within the transformative process. Mili will guide us through an "Eye of the
Hawk" reading that incorporates these concepts to potentially expand our
awareness, consciousness, and personal healing/growth via our own SoulCollage®
decks. Mili Ballard has been a SoulCollage® facilitator since May 2005
and a SoulCollage® facilitator trainer since February 2007. Mili is a training
consultant within business and industry and also focuses on assisting
individuals involved in their own processes of personal transformation. Mili and
her life partner Johnny Dillard, also a trained SoulCollage® facilitator,
co-lead "Just" Blank Cards, their private practice focusing on using the
communicative power of images to enhance relationships with self and others.

Soul Nourishment - SPECIAL OFFERING |

Linden's Last Life, by Alan Cohen. If you follow my writings, you know
that I quote Alan Cohen often. I am a huge fan of his
nonfiction writings on mindfulness, wisdom, and inner authenticity. This is his
first novel and I loved every page! It tells the story of Linden, a young man in
his 30's, who has reached the end of his rope. Feeling he has nothing to live
for, he is ready to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. A mysterious monk rescues
him and gives him refuge for a few nights. Linden then decides to escape the
pain of the world forever, and makes a mystical deal (in a secret cave in the
wilds of Tibet) to never be reborn again (his last life). Then a strange and
unexpected turn of events happens and Linden has second thoughts about this
"deal." Can he reverse it? I'm not going to tell! I found this book to be
entertaining as well as insightful. I laughed out loud many times, and it also
gave me pause to think many times.
Book of Women's Sermons, by Lee E. Hancock. If you're looking for divine
inspiration or a graceful way to reaffirm your faith, this collection of sermons
and talks from women priests and poets, rabbis and canons, ministers and
professors may light your path. Many of these writings are inspired by Scripture
and others grew out of the authors' individual searches for God. While
traditionally women have played marginal roles in church leadership, this
collection shows that in today's world the voices of religion increasingly are
feminine. Here are Kathleen Norris, Lauren Artress, Joan E. Hemenway, Alice
Walker and others, lifting their voices to heaven and, as Barbara Bedway writes,
building 'bridges to God.'
Spiritual Literacy, by Frederick and Maryann Brussat. Subtitled
Reading the Sacred in Every Day Life, this wonderful book is an evocative
treasury of inspirational readings, accompanied by personal reflections and
meditations, features works by Helen Keller, Barbara Kingsolver, Thomas Aquinas,
and others on such themes as nature, relationships, animals, creativity, and
work.
