Soul Singing with Anne Marie
Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com
Hi! I'm Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a SoulCollage® facilitator in Massachusetts. If you're just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage®, this column is especially for you.

Anne Marie is taking this month off from creating new columns for Soul Songs. She offers this quotation and SoulCollage® card that epitomize freedom to her:

There are no prerequisites for liberation.
Claim the freedom you already own.
                                              ~ Alan Cohen

I am the one who is breaking free from old thought patterns and addictions. I am the one who sheds the old cages that used to enclose me. My gift to you is the freedom that has been yours all along!

Anne Marie Bennett is a writer, self-taught artist, website goddess, cancer survivor, and SoulCollage® Facilitator / Trainer who was mentored directly by Seena Frost. In 2005, she fell in love with SoulCollage® and was inspired to use her professional experience along with Internet technology as a means to serve the world by putting SoulCollage® "out there" in a really big way with KaleidoSoul. Anne Marie lives in eastern Massachusetts with her middle-aged husband, two elderly cats and one youthful dog who keeps them all young. You can read more about her on her website SOS Cancer Journeys.

Guest Columnist: Kat Kirby

I'm Kat Kirby, Art Therapist and SoulCollage® Facilitator and Trainer from Prescott, AZ. I work with people in recovery from addictions and eating disorders, and share my passion for SoulCollage® wherever and whenever I can. I am excited to be writing for Soul Songs, and hope you find that my words inspire you to create a new card or two!

Freedom

When I agreed to write this column on the topic of "Freedom", I felt like it might just write itself. After all, I'm a child of the 60's. I'm an Aquarian. I graduated in the Class of '69. This will be easy, right?

Wrong.

Freedom is such a powerful force for me, I found it difficult to hone in on how to express myself in words and pictures. Memories and music came flooding in, and I couldn't find my focus. So in a way, this piece of writing is going to be more free form than previous posts, and I hope you will join me on this little journey into the mind of someone who needs a lot of freedom in her life!

So let's start with music, which will then lead to SoulCollage®.

Watch this video.

"Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground.
Mother Earth will swallow you, lay your body down."

One more video to watch.

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

Music is a powerful force in our lives. I can remember where I was or who I was with years ago just by hearing a certain song. Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream, Richie Havens, Crosby Stills and Nash, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and Maria Muldaur are just a few artists that influenced my thinking about freedom.

Our country was born from a driving need for freedom, and throughout our long and colorful history, freedom features prominently. Images of freedom are strong in my heart and mind.

I have always been a bit rebellious and at times non-conformist. I need my freedom. When I was in nursery school, a girl wore a bathing suit one day and I was in awe at her obvious sense of freedom. I wanted to wear a bathing suit the next day but it was "graduation" day and we were all supposed to be dressed in our finest outfits. Not me. I insisted that I needed to wear a bathing suit to nursery school. And my mother gave in, so the graduating class of Wee Folk Nursery School class of 1955 photo features my 4-year-old self; front and center in my bathing suit, surrounded by girls in frilly dresses and boys in smart pants and shirts. And I was so happy.

So how does freedom tie into SoulCollage? How can we put the concept of freedom into our cards?

I have made a few cards that speak to me of what it feels like to be free and would like to share two of them with you.

The first card that represents freedom is an image of a boy on a bicycle riding above a large number of factory workers, all dressed the same and wearing face masks. "I Am One Who flies above conformity and routine. I refuse to be put into a box and told what to do. I need space and fresh air and the ability to follow my own path. I Am One who is free."

My Wild Woman council card is another bold reminder about freedom. "I Am One Who follows my instincts. I speak and act with consciousness, and cultivate my creativity and intuition. I know that my journey might be fraught with danger and detours, but I also know that I have to maintain my focus in order to understand my deep primal being. I am Wild Woman".

What is your vision of freedom? How can you express it in your SoulCollage® process? I'd love to hear from you!

Happy Creating!

I am one who soars in the nakedness of my truth, the fullness of my heart, and the darkness of my shadows. What I give to you is balance, and freedom to shine in limitless expressions.
