Quotation of the Week
What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous. ---Thomas Merton
Soul Friends The Voice of a Different Kindred Spirit Each Week ![]() Barb Horn Marvel, Colorado In 2007 I had the opportunity to see Jean Shinoda Bolen on her book tour of the “Millionth Circle”. In this book she describes the phenomenon, similar to the tipping point, where regardless of what the action or energy is, when the millionth person joins, or the critical mass is reached, a change or shift will occur. Jean’s emphasis was on the feminine energy this planet needs to heal, whether that energy comes from men or women. She was promoting that women meet in circles, for anything, anytime, to unite this energy to cause the tipping point to shift away from patriarchal domination. It was then I decided I wanted to hold a circle for women but did know “what” for. I didn’t knit or belong to a book club. Two weeks later I was introduced to SoulCollage® and knew that that was my “millionth circle” calling. I love SoulCollage® because it connects me with my own power and wisdom. This connection leads me, guides me to reclaim myself – or fall in love with myself, by myself. I love that it is a private process between me (my soul) and my Divine and yet is universal, connecting me to all my brothers and sisters past, present and future. I love that I can see or feel, every time I use my cards, the impact or influence integrated in my life, often in surprising ways just as images that find me often surprise me. I especially love how each and every time our “I am the one who” or a reading produces an “awe” or “aha,” we in our human form are surprised at how wise our own souls are. I have yet to see someone get complacent to their souls wisdom. SoulCollage® has facilitated and fast tracked me falling in love, true love, with myself. It has helped me see me, see parts of myself I didn’t know where there, embrace parts I couldn’t embrace before, and laugh with other parts. I think this is because through my cards I can see how so many energies, thoughts, choices and actions are connected and evolve or deepen over time. I feel as if myself healing and loving has been on a fast track, not that speed is important on this path, but a fast track to being the brilliant, bright, light and love that I was born to be in this journey. For me, the practice of making, using and sharing cards myself is an essential part of bringing SoulCollage® to others and creating a space where they can see themselves, fall in love with themselves and therefore help to heal the world. I like to make cards alone sometimes and with others sometimes. In both cases I create a sacred space, set an intention and a frame of mind (read a poem, meditation or the like), make cards and always share and do at least “I am the one who…” When working with others I often will see what calls me to include another activity and or type of reading. I have a menu of other activities I integrate that are from my wise mentors such as Mariabruna Sirabella’s weaving activity or meditations, Debbie Ford’s shadow hunting, adaptations I have made to Caroline Myss’s concept of losing power from our chakra’s, Bryon Katie’s “the work,” or I integrate other activities I have created to help us go deeper into one of the suits. My two cards I’d like to share with you are: ![]() My Monk-ey Mind Committee Suit I am the one who tells you how silly your monk-ey mind is. You get so wrapped into all the voices in your mind as if they are sacred Tibetan monk truths and expose you and your shadow, and yet, see, each of these monks is in their own worlds, as if they don’t see or care about your naked soul, because they don’t, they can’t, they are just thoughts passing on the stairs. This came in to being as I began to learn how I am not my thoughts but how much they can rule my soul if not questioned. ![]() Performer Barb Committee Suit (I have found it helpful to look at this card when I have difficulty falling asleep.) I am the one who got up here on stage to tell you that you don’t have to perform anymore for love, acceptance or recognition. There is no one to become, nothing to do, nowhere to go and all day to get there. You are beauty and enough and I am your biggest fan! SoulCollage®
ExpressionsIdeas and Challenges to Spice Up Your SoulCollage® Practice Idea of the Week Try using a piece of textured paper as a background for one of your cards. Add some ribbon or charms, along with your images, then photocopy it so that it is a one-dimensional piece with a three-dimensional look.

Mili will guide us through an “Eye of the Hawk” reading that incorporates these concepts to potentially expand our awareness, consciousness, and personal healing/growth via our own SoulCollage® decks. Mili Ballard has been a SoulCollage® facilitator since May 2005 and a SoulCollage® facilitator trainer since February 2007. Mili is a training consultant within business and industry and also focuses on assisting individuals involved in their own processes of personal transformation.
