Quotation of the Week

Clouds come floating into my life,
no longer to carry rain or usher storm,
but to add color to my sunset sky.

Mary Hicks
Worcester, MA

Hello everyone! My name is Mary Hicks, and I hail from Worcester, MA. I'm fairly new to SoulCollage®, having been in practice with it for about 1 1/2 years. One day in early summer, 2007 I was frantically searching for a retreat center/workshop/gathering -- SOMETHING! in the New England area. All I wanted was someplace beautiful and quiet to spend a couple of days. I happened upon the announcement of Anne Marie's workshop at Adlynrood. SoulCollage seemed like an interesting new something to learn, as I was interested in Praying in Color and Journaling and playing with different forms of art. Anyway, I signed up for the workshop and fell head-over-heels in love with the entire process.

Making SoulCollage® cards was a way for me to feel like an artist without having to "produce something original" - though each card is an original! Years ago, I used to make collages and remember how insightful the process was for me. This was a new way for me to "be alone and chat" with myself and gain insight into the many things that stack together to make up Mary Hicks. SoulCollage® has been a "safe" way for me to get in touch with emotions because it is so easily done alone. Yet, I also love the process with a group of people! Any way you look at them, SoulCollage® cards have so much to offer. I'm even blessed with the opportunity to serve as Anne Marie's Virtual Assistant and share some of my love for this process with you simply by putting your order into an envelope and sending it off! It's fun!!

If you're new to the process of SoulCollage®, don't be shy. Just go for it! I love showing my new cards to my friends. They always want to know "what they mean" but I usually don't know yet. The best way to get into SoulCollage® is to just make cards. There will be time to sit and talk with them later. Let the free spirit flow and you will be "drawn" to grab a pen and paper and begin to sense the meaning behind those images.

Here are two of Mary's current favorite SoulCollage® cards:

Elizabeth
Community Card

I am the one who goes every direction
I am the one who is my childrens' encourager
I am the strong presence for my family

When I began looking at this card, it became obvious very quickly that it was my friend Elizabeth - my friend who does so many things in a day it makes me dizzy! She is a great mom, and great friend, a great helper, and great volunteer, a great cook, a great chauffer...and I think sometimes she just needs to stop and rest, but I'm not sure when that would be.

The Leader
Unknown Suit:

I am the one who gives you strength
I am the one who reminds to you skip now and then
I am the one who holds you up when your sky unfolds

This is a fairly new card, and one of my favorites. I'm leaning toward the fact that it could be about my mother, who died last year. But I'm still working with it. Time will tell. That's the beauty of SoulCollage® -- there's no rush to figure it all out! When it's time, you'll know it.

Our Next Tele-Class
Eckhart Tolle, SoulCollage®, and The Source
with Fran Cherlow, SoulCollage Facilitator in California

We'll take an inspired look at the transpersonal nature of SoulCollage and the book A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, focusing on how we embody this understanding in our lives. Tolle says that consciousness (or the "I Am" experience) is in the background of our lives. What tools can we develop to build this awareness into our everyday lives and what relationship does it have with SoulCollage? Please bring your own questions and musing for this abundant discussion.

Suggested handouts to read before the class.
These include Quotations from the book A New Earth, reflection questions, and a chart that compares and contrasts concepts between SoulCollage and A New Earth.

NOTE:  It is NOT necessary to read the book, A New Earth, before attending this tele-class.

Fran L. Cherlow, MA, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist and a SoulCollage Facilitator in Long Beach, California. In this capacity, she has been facilitating groups and workshops since 2004. Fran was the Chairperson of the first annual SoulCollage Facilitators Conference in 2007, and assisted Mariabruna Sirabella in New Mexico during a recent Facilitator's Training. She co-facilitated a discussion group (on this same topic) with Seena Frost at the second annual SoulCollage Conference in California this year. Recently, the construction of her sacred SoulCollage space was completed and she will inaugurate it with a workshop on the Community Suit honoring a departed loved one or beloved animal.

Soul Nourishment - Books

The Language of Sycamores, by Lisa Wingate. I am thrilled to share with you a new "favorite author." She's not new... she actually has several novels out already. But she's new to me as I just read this one and I'm going to read all her others, in short order. If you like stories about relationships, women, and finding one's true work, you will be deeply satisfied with this book. It is rich, real, and full of soul.

Healing Your Aloneness: Finding Love and Wholeness Through Your Inner Child, by Erika Chopich and Margaret Paul. Described as a "valuable roadmap for healing the child within us," this important book puts emphasis on the Inner Parent as well as the Inner Child, and shows us how to create a healthy relationship between these two valuable Committee members. Also available is a corresponding workbook: Healing Your Aloneness Workbook, which gives you ideas and space for the 6-Step inner bonding spiritual process for healing yourself and your relationships.

Trust Your Vibes, by Sonia Choquette. Straightforward, practical advice on how to activate and use your intuition. Excellent resource for any SoulCollager interested in trusting the intuitive processes further.

The Joyful Child, by Peggy Jenkins, Ph.D. A sourcebook of activities and ideas for releasing children's natural joy. This wonderful book is valuable whether you are working with the "real" children in your life or simply your own inner child. Divided into three sections: Philosophies and Ideas for Releasing Natural Joy, Activities to Release Children's Natural Joy, Putting It All Together. Also a great section of resources and helpful index. Lots of simple ideas for you to access your own inner child's joyfulness.
