Soul Singing with Anne Marie
Anne Marie, the creator of
Hi! I'm Anne Marie, the creator of, and a SoulCollage® Facilitator in Massachusetts and worldwide online. This column is all about presenting ways to get your soul singing with the deep, wide, wonder-full process that is SoulCollage®.

I am busy preparing for my final two SoulCollage® Facilitator Trainings as we prepare this issue for publication, so I am taking this month off from offering a new column.

Please spend some sacred time with Linda Woolfson’s column below. May it uplift you and enrich your SoulCollage® practice!

Anne Marie Bennett is a SoulCollage® Facilitator / Trainer, published author, website goddess, and two-time cancer survivor who was mentored directly by Seena Frost. In 2005, she fell in love with SoulCollage® and was inspired to use her professional experience along with web technology as a means to serve the world by putting SoulCollage® "out there" in a really big way with KaleidoSoul. Anne Marie lives in eastern Massachusetts with her middle-aged husband and two adolescent felines who keep them hopping. Anne Marie’s books about SoulCollage® are available here.

Guest Columnist: Linda Woolfson

I’m Linda Woolfson, MA, PhD, SoulCollage® Trainer & Facilitator, writer, translator and creativity catalyst. I’m delighted to share with you some of the many ways we can embrace our SoulCollage® practice as a fabulous tool-box of enjoyable self-help techniques to support us in developing resilience, patience, courage, self-compassion, and a sense of humor when navigating life’s many changes.

The ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus had it just right when he said: “Nothing endures but change.”

Aware though we may be of this undeniable aspect of life, we probably find, at least sometimes, that adjusting to change in our lives is a challenging and demanding process.

One of the greatest blessings of having a SoulCollage® deck is the powerful support our cards can give us in identifying, acknowledging and shaping our relationship to change.

Considering the number of changes we’re likely to experience as we move through life, our relationship with change is bound to be ambiguous and multi-facetted. One great way our SoulCollage® process can help us navigate change is to consciously invite ourselves to make some cards exploring the richness of our relationship to it.

Here are three of mine which I find particularly helpful:

Constantly Changing
Council Suit

I am one who reminds you that the nature of all nature is change: the ever-moving sky, the flowing water, the sparkle of light and the ancient weather-worn granite all speak to you from the book of life: recognize and celebrate the simplicity and mystery of change.

It can be really helpful to be reminded that change is an integral part of life itself.

Autumn to Winter
Committee Suit

I am one who gets sad and scared when autumn shifts into winter. I am one who feels vulnerable when changes keep happening.

Even though we know that change is part of the natural cycle and rhythm of life, we often feel fear when change arises. Having a card in our deck to remind us of this fear can help us become more compassionate to ourselves when facing change.

Old Sole
Council Suit

I am one who has been transformed by my time in the depths of the ocean from an old plastic sandal into a sculpture of strange and quirky beauty. I am one who has suffered a sea change into something rich and strange. Look at me and know that change is always surprising.

This card helps to remind me that change is always at the very least surprising and at most miraculously transformative!

Your Whole Deck

Another enjoyable thing to do is to look at your whole deck and ask yourself, “Where have I already explored, experimented with or confronted change in in my SoulCollage® practice?” Repeated motifs in our cards can throw light on our underlying experience of change. Look out particularly for recurring natural images such as water, stone or fire.

To help yourself move through the changes you’re currently experiencing, scan through your whole deck again, this time looking for potential allies and challengers. If you’re meeting opposition from others while going through an important change, maybe you could use a Bodyguard Neter? Or if it’s all too much and you need to vent in the presence of a witness, how about an Inner Good Listener? If progress is just too slow for you right now, how about making sure your Patience Neter is actively present in supporting you?

Another possibility is to do a reading about any aspect of your relationship to changes, both big and small? Here are a few ideas of questions you can pose to your whole deck (choose just 3-4 randomly to help you answer):

How can I become more gracious and accepting about getting older?

Who can help me to become less fearful about the changes happening in my life right now?

What can I do to fully embrace all the wonderful changes in my life?

In so many ways, SoulCollage® can help us to alchemize the changes in our lives so that we see change as part of the beauty and mystery of life.

Linda Woolfson, MA, PhD is a SoulCollage® Facilitator and Trainer, writer, translator and creativity catalyst. Of South African origin, she now enjoys living a dual-based life between the United Kingdom and Portugal, running SoulCollage® and creativity workshops, SoulCollage® Trainings, and retreats in special places in both countries. She trained with Seena Frost as a Facilitator in 2010 and has been exploring the depths of SoulCollage® and introducing others to this empowering process with enthusiasm ever since.

KaleidoSoul Creations
As promised, we are featuring ng SoulCollage® cards from our readers in each issue.

Each card below is a card from one SoulCollager's Deck that represents the idea of Transition or Change.

Harvest Time
Committee Suit

I am the one who feels ready to reap what I have sown and very carefully cultivated. I am the one who can taste the delicious fruits of my labor. I am the one who can feel the sweetness of cuddly hugs. I am the one who wants to be the apple of someone’s eye. I am the one who is ready to give again.

Surrender and Trust
Council Suit

I am one who surrenders and trusts.
In times of transition, I must.
Resisting is fruitless.
Surrender gives rest.
Just let go and give up the fuss.

Ready to Sail
Council Suit

I am one who is ready to sail.
I have all I need to not fail.
This journey's been rough.
I've had plenty enough.
You've shown me the way to prevail.

Council Suit

Butterfly says:
I am one who is the symbol of positive transformation. Most folks know I go through several changes before I emerge as a beautiful Monarch butterfly and wing my way to Mexico. Many do not know that when I am in my caterpillar stage in the cocoon, I must allow myself to change into a gooey state before I grow into a butterfly. That’s commitment to transformation!

The hands say:
I am one who values positive transformation in myself and others. I am one who knows that most transformation requires challenging emotional work. I am one who recognizes that trauma sometimes transforms us in ways we’d rather not have to acknowledge or accept. I am one who was shocked to learn that when the butterfly caterpillar goes into the cocoon, it first changes into goo before it emerges as the butterfly. Most of us reject this sort of change! I am one who appreciates that butterflies are very fragile and warn us when we are destroying the environment they need, by diminishing in numbers.

Council Suit

I am one who takes you onwards, through light and darkness, to what comes next. I am one who helps you appreciate that transitions involve loss and endings. I am one who guides you into the unknown.

Autumn Transition
Committee Suit
Anne Marie

I am the one who breathes in the falling leaves of autumn. I am the one who lets autumn remind me that letting go and changing is part of every life journey.

Council Suit
Anne Marie

I am the one who represents the season of autumn. I am the one who is all about change, transition, letting go. I am the one who dances among the leaves that have let go of the safety of their home. I am the one who reminds you all that change and letting go may be painful, but there is also bright beauty within that journey.

Please feel free to submit one of your cards for a future issue by sending a reply email to this newsletter.

Future themes include:
December: Holidays
January:  Animal Companions

Introducing: Curated Cut-Ups

Curated Cut-Ups is a new Etsy shop from Facilitator Paloma Sylvan who lives in the Seacoast of New Hampshire. She takes great joy in both the art of collage and curating images for others to use in their own personal art. She loves to scour thrift stores for old magazines and books, and feels happy about rescuing and upcycling images that may otherwise be heading to a landfill.

Being creative and thoughtful with themes and putting diverse groupings of images together is what makes this new business fun for Paloma, and she hopes to pass that positive experience on to you.

Here’s what you’ll get with a purchase from Curated Cut Ups:

  • Thoughtfulness: Image packs are full of upcycled images in a variety of themes and quantities perfect for personal collage art. No two image packs are the same and each pack will be a unique adventure to play with!
  • More time for doing what you love: Let me do the sorting & trimming and you can get straight to the collage making!
  • Abundance: Image Packs always include extra images! I trim images from all kinds of sources: current, vintage, fashion, photography, house and home, art journals, nature magazines, parenting, world cultures and lots more. (No copies)
