Soul Singing with Anne Marie
Anne Marie, the creator of
Hi! I'm Anne Marie, the creator of, and a SoulCollage® facilitator in Massachusetts. If you're just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage®, this column is especially for you.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling SoulCollagers

Several years ago there was a lovely little movie called Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants which featured Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrara, Blake Lively, and Alexis Bledel. It was a coming-of-age adventure based on Ann Brashares' best-selling novel about the 16th summer in the lives of four lifelong girlfriends who are separated for the first time.

In the story, the girls find an ordinary pair of jeans in a thrift shop. But the pants are far from ordinary because even though the girls are of varying shapes and sizes, they fit each girl perfectly. Magic pants, indeed! They decide to share the jeans over the summer by mailing them back and forth to each other. As they do so, their stories are able to be told and their friendship flourishes.

What does a magical pair of jeans have to do with SoulCollage®? Plenty! Up here in the northeast, Facilitator Anne Boedecker and I have been leading SoulCollage® weekend retreats together for many years. They are popular and many of the same women return year after year. We come from many different states and have even had some international SoulCollagers attend from Switzerland and Canada!

We don't share a pair of one-size-fits-all magical jeans (as nice as that would be!) but we do share something else in common: the practice of SoulCollage® (which, if you think about it, is very much one-size-fits-all). Our cards and the work/play that we do with them indeed helps us to bond in friendship and share our stories and lives in ways that we would not be able to otherwise.
The SoulCollage® card I share here is to honor the sisterhood that was created at our autumn 2015 SoulCollage® Retreat at Genesis Spiritual Life Center in Westfield, Massachusetts. Our theme was Autumn Transformation: Learning to Let Go. Many women did deep inner work within our circles of trust and I was privileged to witness and be a part of this. I had done some of that deep inner work myself in preparation for my workshop on forgiveness. We all made cards together and separately, our bonds grew deeper as the weekend progressed.

I don't have a card for every retreat I've ever led, but this particular retreat felt special to me, and it was made even more special because at our closing circle, I was gifted with enough money to donate two new trees that have been placed on the Genesis property, in recognition of KaleidoSoul's 10th birthday. This gesture moved me to tears and I am so grateful for KaleidoSoul to have been recognized in such a permanent, earth-centered way.

The sisterhood (and brotherhood!) that is formed when SoulCollagers gather together is a powerful energy that is meant to (and does!) unleash Good into the world. Seena Frost knew what she was doing when she encouraged us to gather together to share this "one-size-fits-all" process, and I encourage you to do the same. Wherever you are, find someone else to share your card making and your journaling with. We are all sisters and brothers no matter our race, creed or nationality. Get someone else excited about this inner work. The community is alive and well, and it grows as you do!

Using SoulCollage® to Heal Your Relationship with Money

60 minute SoulCollage® tele-class
with SoulCollage® Facilitator
Minette Riordan in California.

Saturday, February 6 2016
4 pm Eastern
Join SoulCollage® facilitator and creative business coach Dr. Minette Riordan for a 60-minute tele-class on healing your relationship with money. You will learn what your top 3 Sacred Money Archetypes are and how to align your spiritual and your financial success.

We all have money blind spots that are likely causing an "invisible ceiling" on our income. Surprisingly, this invisible ceiling exists at every income level. Breaking free from these blind spots will help to remove any limits on your financial freedom and inner worth.

Minette will share how we can use the intuitive process of SoulCollage® to work with our Sacred Money Archetypes so that we can transform our relationship with money, empower our voice when discussing money in any situation, discover key areas where we may be giving away our power with money, and identify steps we can take to own our value, with confidence and clarity.

To prepare for this class:

1. Take the Sacred Money Archetypes Quiz online
2. Then read through the descriptions of your top 3 archetypes.
3. Find three images that represent the energy of each of your top 3 Sacred Money Archetypes. If you have time to make cards for each one, that is wonderful but not required.
4. Please have a notebook and pen with you for the tele-class along with the descriptions of your top 3 archetypes and 3 images
5. It's perfectly okay to just call-in and listen if you don't have time to do the prep work beforehand, but the class will be more helpful to you if you can.

Easily Accessible from Anywhere in the World!

Kindred Connections and Sisterhood

When I think of the word sisterhood, I think of circles of connected women forged over time. The word sisterhood, like parenthood, brotherhood, and neighborhood, bring to the surface my own memories of shared experiences with others and the recognition of the shared experiences of others:

Sister: My earliest understanding of sister energy was witnessing the tumultuous relationship my mother had with her sister. They battled, argued and irritated one another. They were fierce sisters, opinionated, stubborn, and also loving, with shared memories and interests. They could harmonize when they wanted to, but getting under each other's skin was the pattern that played out all of their lives.

Sisters: Although I didn't have a sister, I gave birth to sisters. When I became a mother to two girls fourteen months apart, these girls became the sisters to whom I was attuned, witnessing and circling sister energies. They forged a bond from the very beginning and within a year behaved almost like twins, connected and kindred. It was joy to experience sisterhood through that lens, which offered me the opposite experience of my mother and aunt as sisters. I was able to see, share, and sometimes foster their kindred connection through the years.

Best Friends: When I was young I wanted a sister-friend. I remember my best friend when I was five, another when I was 14, and again at 24. I wanted to best-friend a girl at one stage in early school days, but it was a surface friendship and not meant to be. I liked this girl so much I named my new puppy after her, something that my mother thought was hysterical but in retrospect was poignant. Yearning came into play when seeking sister-friends; as a shy girl, I often observed from afar.

Sister of the Heart: A sister of the heart came later in life. As I turned to meet myself, I also met a friend who was like a sister to me. Moving away from communications that were problematic allowed my relationship with this sister-friend to be based in shared experience and shared vision for personal growth. I discovered that aligned experience and interest was to be part of my future sister relationships, sister bonds and circles.

Anam Cara: John O'Donohue brought forth the term Anam Cara (which means Soul Friend), in his book of the same name. Anam Cara is a term birthed of monastic friendships, and pointing to symbiotic companioning within friendship. Anam Cara friendships are like mirrors in our relationships, not copying or emulating one another but holding a reflective energy that offers being seen for one's true self. O'Donohue states, "Real friendship or love is not manufactured or achieved by an act of will or intention. Friendship is always an act of recognition." To be recognized in sisterhood is a powerful experience, to have Anam Cara is to know how two souls begin to flow together.

Sisterhood in Circles: Sister-friends joining together to experience circle communities offer a distinctive kind of companioning, where women agree to connect and co-create in aligned ways. Modern circles of women offer a means to experience found family and connect to kindred others. Circle sisters in the best of situations will foster agreements, build relationships, and offer companioning and witnessing. Circle gatherings may support all kinds of ideas and active connections, including areas such as spiritual practice, personal growth, social activism, art-making, book sharing, recovery, parenting and healing practices, to name a few.

My experiences of these sister-ways offer me countless opportunities to discover more about myself. Creatively, they feed my dreams and relationships as I connect with others in ways that continue to inspire and enrich my life. Sisterhood reflects shadow stories shared on long dark nights, relationships lost and found, and sisters never forgotten despite the passage of time.

I honor and celebrate the circles of women who dance with me through my life, in so many extraordinary and creative ways. I am grateful to the kindred connections and sisters-in-all-ways that I only imagined between the pages of a book, knowing now that this is so:

Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them [us] in the world. - L.M. Montgomery from Anne of Green Gables

Community Suit

I am the one who has the blessing of wonderful girlfriends. We celebrate this phase of our lives by regularly engaging in rituals of self-care with enthusiasm and fun. We cherish and lovingly care for ourselves, holding the intention to accept our aging gracefully. We embrace our lives and each other through thick (thickening middles) and thin ;-)

Committee Suit

I am one who belongs to the community of women, friends, sisters, daughters and mothers. I gather food and share stories with my soul sisters. My wolf companion is by our side, keeping us safe with his watchful eye and keen hearing. We tease, laugh and enjoy the beautiful sharing of like-minds.

Community Suit

I am the one who is a sister to my friends. I am loyal, trusting and giving. You are my sister, my friend my beloved. There is no difference between us. I am here to tell you to be a sister not only to your closes friends but to all you know and see, for we all connected in the great Universal Love.

Sisterhood Ideal
Committee Suit

I am the one who upholds the light of Spirit through the strength and support of my sisters. Together, we send the light of love into the world, calling others to join us in celebrating who we are as individuals and as small communities of support. From the peace we find together in sisterhood, we send our energy into the universe inviting all to dance together around the light of sisterhood love.

Girl Scout
Committee Suit

I am the one who grew up in Girl Scouts and experienced being in a special sisterhood outside of my family. I am the one who went to camp, sold cookies, earned my God and Community Award, learned a lot about nature and had a lot of fun through Scouting. After babysitting, my first job was as a Girl Scout Day Camp Counselor.

Circles of Women
Suit Unknown
Anne Marie

We are the ones who gather together to laugh, to play, to learn, to grow. We are the ones who circle around in equal measure, none of us is better/stronger/more powerful than the others. We are the ones who activate the intimate mystery of the circle, where all sit in equal distance from the Center. We are the ones who listen compassionately, who see everything about you and love you still.
