Quotation of the Week

Creativity is allowing oneself to make mistakes,
Art is knowing which ones to keep.

Licia Berry

Hi everyone, I'm Licia and am currently traveling on the west coast with my family, searching for our next place to settle in.

I've been collaging for 25 years, and incorporated SoulCollage into my creativity work/play in 2006. I was drawn to SoulCollage because it integrates my Holy Trinity: Creativity, Spirituality and Healing. I love that it emulates Soul Retrieval work, but it is done in such a way as to not need a practitioner to be effective. I also love that it is inexpensive, and therefore available to everybody.

In Shamanism, we travel the inner landscape and bring the invisible world into the visible world for the purposes of healing and wholeness. SoulCollage is a means to do that as well. I find it a great tool to inform me of parts of myself that are seeking attention and asking to be integrated.
Jump in and don't be too concerned about following the rules. As Seena says, make it your own. For example, I re-named the suits to make more sense to me: they are the Inner Tribe, Outer Tribe, Nature Tribe and Spirit Tribe. I am also finding that there are more suits being birthed the more I work with SoulCollage. Trust yourself and honor your process.

I find that SoulCollage works beautifully with other healing and self-growth modalities. In my case, I am a "WiseWoman" as named by my indigenous contemporaries, which basically means that I have consciously used my experiences in life to grow and make me wiser, and have made a map of this journey, offering this wisdom to the people. I seem to be embodying the Great Mother vibration, which means I am a good holder of space for things to happen, a kind of womb in which creation occurs. In my work I utilize quantum physics, shamanic training, Psych-K, angelic guidance, and art to invite people into experiencing and grounding their Wholeness, Divinity and Joy.

I seem to be a collector; I have quite a stash of images that have spoken to me, and so I categorize them in basic ways so that I can put my hand on them when I want them. I choose images intuitively, trusting that an image has arrested my attention for a good reason, even if I don't know what to do with it yet.

When I am making cards, I create a holy space. Literally, I feel that I am interacting with parts of myself when I make a card, which I treat with great love and respect. I may light a candle, put sweet music on, and/or set the intention not to be disturbed. I have a sense of the inner travel that is taking place when I am choosing, cutting and placing images on the card. It is a sacred ritual for me.

I feel very supported by my subconscious and super-conscious while I am making cards. My conscious mind may have no clue what a card is about, but the rest of me is leading me and guiding me somewhere that is supportive. I have had cards warn me of something that is coming, give me guidance about something to do in my life, and give me a picture of where I am on the inner map of my process.

The making of the cards itself is cathartic for me, but there is also great fun and revelation in dialoguing with the cards later. I also ask for guidance to choose a card for meditation or a call to action about a choice I am facing in my life.

I keep my cards wrapped in velvet inside a treasure chest. I want to treat my cards with the same love and respect with which I treat myself.

Please visit my website, and our Family Travel Blog.

Here are two SoulCollage cards I want to share with you:

The Life Giver
Suit: Inner Tribe

I am One Who reveres All Creation, seeing each organism as a reflection of me.
I am One Who feels joy in sharing love with those who willingly accept it.
I am One Who respects the inherent intelligence in every molecule, whether those molecules make an animal, mountain, plant, ocean, bacteria or human.

This is one of my earliest soul collage cards; it was a joy to make! I realized after writing my I Am One Who's that this card is about me acknowledging that I am an expression of Source and that Source experiences life through me.

Self Hatred
Suit: Outer Tribe

This card was originally titled "My Father," who, through his horrific actions, was a great teacher in my life. This is a good example of a card that has changed meaning over time in my Deck.

I Am One Who hides my pain and projects it outward onto others.
I Am One Who hides my knowing of my Divinity under a hard exterior.

This card is made from a single image that I saw in a National Geographic . It SO captured the feeling of deep fear, internal loathing and external violence that it needed no further embellishment. Even though it was originally meant to symbolize my father, I was guided (as I am with all my cards) to take it inside to see what part of me this image is expressing. This inner journey led me to see my own Inner Father, who was modeled after my actual birth father. This gave me the opportunity to understand and heal my own Inner Father in order to do a better job of fathering my Inner Child! As always, in the knowing that I am All Things, even what may appear to be my Outer tribe is still a reflection of my Inner Tribe. It is not always easy to be willing to look at oneself so honestly, but I always find it very rewarding to face and heal the darkness in myself. I feel it benefits me as well as the collective consciousness.

Our Next Tele-Class
Eckhart Tolle, SoulCollage®, and The Source
with Fran Cherlow, SoulCollage Facilitator in California

We'll take an inspired look at the transpersonal nature of SoulCollage and the book A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, focusing on how we embody this understanding in our lives. Tolle says that consciousness (or the "I Am" experience) is in the background of our lives. What tools can we develop to build this awareness into our everyday lives and what relationship does it have with SoulCollage? Please bring your own questions and musing for this abundant discussion.

Suggested handouts to read before the class.
These include Quotations from the book A New Earth, reflection questions, and a chart that compares and contrasts concepts between SoulCollage and A New Earth.

NOTE:  It is NOT necessary to read the book, A New Earth, before attending this tele-class.

Fran L. Cherlow, MA, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Therapist and a SoulCollage Facilitator in Long Beach, California. In this capacity, she has been facilitating groups and workshops since 2004. Fran was the Chairperson of the first annual SoulCollage Facilitators Conference in 2007, and assisted Mariabruna Sirabella in New Mexico during a recent Facilitator's Training. She co-facilitated a discussion group (on this same topic) with Seena Frost at the second annual SoulCollage Conference in California this year. Recently, the construction of her sacred SoulCollage space was completed and she will inaugurate it with a workshop on the Community Suit honoring a departed loved one or beloved animal.
