Quotation of the Week
How we spend our days, of course, is how we spend our lives.
--- Annie Dillard Soul Friends The Voice of a Different Kindred Spirit Each Week Priscilla WoodFramingham, MA Greetings! My name is Priscilla Wood and I live with my husband in Framingham, Massachusetts. I became a SoulCollager in July 2007 when I attend a weekend retreat at Adelynrood Retreat and Conference Center in Byfield, MA led by Anne Marie. The title of the weekend was "Reweave Your Life." I had just retired the previous May from 28 years of ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church. I was at a point in my life where I was looking for ways to discern the next steps in my journey. I didn't know much about SoulCollage®, but it sounded like cutting and pasting images would be fun. In addition I loved spending time at Adelynrood, and the title of the retreat promised a chance to reflect on what was next for me. I did have a good time. The cutting and pasting was fun. I certainly didn't get all my next steps figured out. (With every step there are new possibilities that weren't there before.) But I did find one more tool to use when I needed to reflect on my journey. I was a little leery of doing a reading with my cards- it sounded too much like using a Ouija board- but because what my card reveals to me is already inside me, I soon came to see the value of using the cards to speak that truth out loud. Since that retreat I have continued to do SoulCollage®. I have 50 or so cards and several more in progress. I work/play/explore in several ways. Sometimes I set out to do a card about someone in my community or an archetype that is important to me. I go about looking for images that represent these people or ideas. I have done family members, Jesus and Mother God this way. I have countless images sorted in various ways in file folders. Sometimes an image keeps coming to the top of my pile and I know I have to use that image to make a card. I set the image on a card and keep my eye out for other images that go with it and see what happens. I love being surprised by what I discover. I like the chance that SoulCollage® gives me to be quiet, and work with arranging color and images that will be pleasing to look at and tell me something about myself. When I'm doing SoulCollage® I generally have several cards being born at once. Some because I am working on a particular person or idea and some because the images are speaking to me and I am trying to listen. The space in which I do SoulCollage® is also the space in which I do my sewing. So sometimes the cards are stacked up in a file folder waiting to come out again and sometimes the fabric is folded up in a drawer waiting to come out again. But both allow me to work with color and shape and have quiet time for reflection. Here are two of my cards. ![]() The Sewer Committee Suit I made this mostly on my first weekend retreat. When I got home I realized it wasn't finished and so I added in the picture of my mother's sewing machine on which I learned to sew. I am the one who sews. I am the one who loves to create with fabric and color. I am the one who focuses on what I am doing, but also looks up and out into the future. I am the one who remembers my mother with love and thanksgiving.

ExpressionsIdeas and Challenges to Spice Up Your SoulCollage® Practice Idea of the Week If you're struggling with the layout of a certain card, put the pieces away and come back to it at a later time. In the meantime, you might have an idea (or a dream) about that card, or you might even find another image that makes it all come together for you.

Upcoming Tele-Classes and Presenters: May 15, 2009 (Friday, 8 pm Eastern) - Using the Wisdom of the Medicine Wheel in your SoulCollage® Journey, with Alexa Singer-Telles, LMFT, SoulCollage® Facilitator in California. The Native American Medicine Wheel offers us a sacred container to honor the wisdom of the seasons and cycles of life, the elemental qualities, and the guidance of animals and archetypal energies. We will imagine ourselves sitting in the center of our own medicine wheel, inviting in the elements of the four directions in relation to the four SoulCollage® suits as a gift of support. We will work with the guidance of the Visionary, Healer, Teacher, and Warrior as they represent the energies of the four directions. Our time together will be experiential, with lots of time for questions and sharing. Alexa has led women's rituals including rites of passage for over twenty years using the medicine wheel as the sacred container to hold the experience. She has been actively engaged in the use of dreamwork, movement, and expressive artwork (both personally and therapeutically) as a process for guidance and healing. June 14, 2009 (Sunday, 5pm Eastern) - Meditation and SoulCollage®: How Each Enhances the Other, with Marti Beddoe, Meditation Teacher and SoulCollage® Facilitator in Illinois. For new as well as experienced mediators. Marti will share with us some ways that her SoulCollage® practice has benefited her meditation practice, and vice versa. If you are looking to deepen your SoulCollage® work, this is the class for you! July, 2009 - SoulCollage® and the Art of Sacred Listening, with Laura Hegfield, SoulCollage® Facilitator in New Hampshire. Consider allowing silence to be the container that holds your SoulCollage® practice. I believe that silence can open us to a more intimate listening experience, ultimately allowing us to drink a more satisfying cup of the sweet wisdom our cards have to offer. During this tele-class, Laura will offer some practical tips for incorporating more silence into your life and your SoulCollage® practice (alone, with friends or as a facilitator in workshops). Laura is a SoulCollage® Facilitator, Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach, Yoga & Jewish Spirituality Teacher, Artist, Blogger, Wife and Mom practicing the sacred art of "life" in Southern NH. Please visit her blog, Shine the Divine to get to know her better before the call. (Date and time to be announced, please stay tuned.)
