Quotation of the Week
One of the very worst, self-murdering lies that people tell
themselves is that they are no good and have no gift and nothing important to say. ---Brenda Euland
Soul Wisdom
from Anne Marie Bennett
Several years ago a nearby professional theatre staged a production of the musical Honk! It was based on the story of the ugly duckling, and performed by adults in creative costumes which gave the impression that they were animals.
I was working in the box office there at the time, so I was lucky to be able to see Honk! several times during its three-week run. My favorite scene in the show was near the end, when the actor portraying "Ugly" reappeared wearing starched white jeans, a pristine white ski jacket, dark sunglasses, and a beautiful white baseball cap.
He suddenly noticed that he wasn't wearing scruffy, torn clothes and nerdy glasses anymore, and said in total bewilderment, "I'm not a duck?" Then his amazement turned to joy as he shouted more confidently, "I'm not a duck. I'm a swan!" I can still hear the inflection in his voice as he reveled in his new-found beauty with awe and pride.
I took a lesson home with me every night from that show.
I also took an affirmation-
I'm not a duck...I'm a swan.
I'm not a duck...I'm a swan.
And then I turned that affirmation into a ritual.
On my daily walks that summer, I passed a house which had 2 verdigris duck statues on the stone wall on either side of the driveway. When I came to them, I would touch the first duck and say to myself, "I'm not a duck," then touch the second duck and say, "I'm a swan." And I would do the same thing on my way home.
This little ritual is one that still brings me comfort and joy. Every time I touch those ducks and say those words, I am reminded that I really am a swan- with goodness, beauty, gifts, and something important to say.
Reflection activity of the week: Create an affirmation of your own and incorporate it into a ritual that reminds you of your goodness, beauty, and gifts. If you like, share it with us at the KaleidoSoul Community Group.
SoulCollage® Expressions
Idea of the Week
The next time you make a SoulCollage card, leave some of the colored mat board showing. Remember, you don't have to cover every centimeter of the background. The colored part of the mat can be used as part of the background, as a frame/border, and/or to set off the images you've chosen.
We'd love to hear from you!
Question of the Week
Do I have to make a Source Card if I don't believe in God?
You don't have to make a Source card, but it is strongly suggested that you do...eventually. You may want to wait a while until you feel really ready to do this. It also might take a long while before you find just the right image. If you think of the Source as Spirit, or as the Oneness that holds all of Life, you just might be able to do it!
Do you have a question about SoulCollage®

Soul Collage found me in January 2006. Most of any journaling I've done over the years is collage in nature. I tried Altered Books and enjoyed that but the appeal for the present creative journey is the size of the SoulCollage cards (mine are 4 x 6 Strathmore-watercolor postcards - 15 per package). I also am enjoying the ability to share and compare with a community of like mind.
The advantage of Internet is that it creates a warm, exciting and inviting venue for a circle of artistic people. This is a positive venture that creates ripples of thoughts and feelings in a plethora of colour, and shapes communication in a healthy wordless soul. I find the process of SoulCollage a form of meditation.
I also love it because it is allowing this great-grandmother to be a child again! I love to look through magazines, cut, paste and create. I make a mess. Making a mess feels good! There is always a bright spot in my life now, knowing there is some creative mysterious gift waiting in the box of goodies I'm collecting - and continue to collect.
If you're new to SoulCollage, my advice is........... Don't worry! Be happy! You make the rules - start looking, be aware of what pictures come to you, and begin to follow the direction that your creativity takes you in. Surprising discoveries are the result. You will reach a new level of awareness. Doors will open - a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem are enhanced as you delve into your personal unique soul-self.
Here are 2 of my favorite SoulCollage® cards:
Contentment
Suit Unknown
I am the one who knows content. I am the one who seeks the void. I am the one who basks in deep calm. I am the one who feels the reward of solitude.
I give you a rock solid foundation of the primordial grandfathers with ability to twist and turn to survive the winds of change. I give you the capability to refresh in the meadow of peacefulness. I want you to express the attributes of the wise grandmother. Now is the time to rest in the constant of change. Be aware of the edge of unknowing.
You will remember when you see the peaks of mountains or walk the ancient forest floor, where you will see the world of plant life regenerating. You will feel the freshness of wilderness winds, watch the gathering and depletion of storms, the color of the changing light in a day, and notice the return of the humble wild daisy, a symbol of hope.

Endurance
Suit Unknown
I am the one who weathers the storm knurled by experience. I am the one who stands tall and knows the seasons.
