Invisible Hands:
(A Guided Exploration of the SoulCollage® Council Suit)
Lesson 2
A Spirit Guide By Any Other Name...
It took me quite a while to grasp this concept of Spirit Guides in my life, as well as in my SoulCollage deck! In fact, the first time I really "got it" was when I allowed one of my more intuitive cards to speak to me using the I am the one who... exercise. You will see this card and hear me talk about it when you do the Assignment, below.
For now, let's look at this idea of "spirit guides" for a moment, by thinking about each part separately.
Spirit
I think of my spirit as that part of me (unseen, untouchable, yet very real) which is connected to the Divine. The Divine can be called by many names, and here are just some of the more familiar ones: God, Trinity, Allah, The Light, Shiva, Govind, Spirit and Goddess. You might have another name that you call the Divine in your own life. Look at these names and read them over. Spend some time with them this week. And when you are ready, if you don't have a name for the Divine already, choose the one that feels most clear and precious to you.
Guide
According to the Free Dictionary, a guide is: a. One who shows the way by leading, directing, or advising. b. One who serves as a model for others, as in a course of conduct.
Spirit Guide
As I combine these two definitions, I see that a Spirit Guide is one who shows me the way to the Divine, or one who acts as a model of the Divine in my own life, in my day-to-day circumstances. Another definition of Spirit Guides describes them as those who watch, teach, heal, and help you on your physical journey into spiritual awareness. (--Crystal Links)
I also like to think of my Spirit Guides as loving beings that form a circle around me at all times. This is a circle of protection, love, and power that is sometimes hard for me to fathom and remember, but I have faith that it is there, and always.
We all have certain soul friends (or maybe even a therapist or spiritual director) who enable us to see and perceive the Divine more clearly in our lives. They may do this by talking with us, by writing us emails or letters, or simply by their own physical example of how they live their lives for us to see.
But Spirit Guides are invisible and must connect with us in other ways. Sometimes this happens through our intuition, sometimes it happens in the dreamtime while we are sleeping. Sometimes it happens through what we call "coincidence."
The really important thing here is that we remain open to our Spirit Guides. Simply being aware of them is a start.
How SoulCollage Fits In
I find that SoulCollage is the clearest way for my Spirit Guides to make themselves known to me. Through this amazing intuitive, almost magical process, my Spirit Guides are coming to me one by one, and speaking to me through the I am the one who...exercise, and through my daily (and other) card readings.
Other people may have other ways to communicate with their Spirit Guides and/or they may call them something different. This is okay. It's also okay if you want to just put all of this on the back burner for now and come back to it later!
Assignment:
1. I've found that visual aids help even more than words when trying to understand the concept of Spirit Guides, so I'm happy to share with you several of my own Spirit Guide SoulCollage cards, and I've made an audio recording about them that you can listen to as you look at them. You need to go to the Spirit Guides page on KaleidoSoul in order to see the cards and listen to the recording. NOTE: The password to log on to this page is mystery.
2. This week, simply be aware of the fact that Spirit Guides are near you, in another mysterious dimension. You cannot see them but you might be able to feel or hear inwardly what they are telling you. Simply listen inside this week. You might jot down some ideas, or you might even recall certain Beings who you were close to in childhood. Don't worry so much about naming them or imaging them. We'll be working/playing with that idea in the next few lessons!
